808TE crackling mic sounds

Postby minor9 on Fri Jul 30, 2010 7:37 am

Unfortunately I've experienced some trouble with the internal mic recently, there's loud pops and crackling sounds coming from the soundhole pickup. I can avoid it by playing extremly gently, but as soon I hit the strings with a tiny bit more force this noise comes through. It also leaks through to the other mic, so whether I turn the volume down on the second mic or not, it doesn't make any difference.

Are there any others in here who've experienced the same problem, and what should I do about it? I've had the mic exchanged for a new one but it didn't help. The connections are correctly plugged in to the pickup system. Maybe I could open that box and take a look inside, but I don't own any soldering equipment myself so maybe there's not much I could do about it?

Have you tried cleaning the jack? My son has the original AP5 (no mic) and we have had some crackling and popping at times. Cleaning the jack cures it. I have also heard that not all quarter inch plugs are created equal; one luthier told me has had seen issues with Monster cable plugs.

Cheers,

If the noise still continues - do contact Maton. Their customer service is excellent.
If the problem is the microphone or even the plug attached to the microphone - a few words of description to Maton normally does the trick.
They'll probably send you a new mic. A good contact a Chris Finch who deals with techinical repairs

Good luck.
